That’s it! If you decide you don’t like the dark mode very much, simply switch back to the normal icon in Appearance. Simply select the dark icon to switch MacOS over. For example, in Dark Mode the menu bar at the top of the Mac UI is no longer white with black text. That’s how easy it is to automate dark and light mode on the Mac. I found a thing on Github that can automatically turn on and off dark mode at a certain time in MacOS Mojave, but now I kind of lost track of it/didnt set it up properly and I cant find it to delete it. Click on Auto to make sure that your Mac automatically switches between Light and Dark modes. In Mojave, Appearance is divided into two icons, a light and a dark option. In macOS Mojave in Dark Mode, dark colors are used in place of light colors in the user interface. Dark mode turning on automatically in MacOS Mojave Open macOS Im a bit embarrassed about this. The very first option in General should be Appearance. General is where all the basic settings connected to your Mac’s look and color are located. All the way to the left, you should see the icon for General, which is a little File drop-down menu icon. Once System Preferences is open, look at the top row of icons. System Preferences should be the second option in the drop-down menu. Perhaps the easiest way, though, is to click on the ever-present Apple button in the upper-left corner of the screen. This can be done in a number of ways, such as doing a spotlight search and typing in “system preferences” or opening it from Launchpad with a four-finger pinch. You need to update it right now Currently, I did not find a way of toggle macOS Mojaves dark mode programmatically. So setting it through that Apple Script definitely does something to override the System Preferences window, not actually reset the value that System Preferences uses. If I set Appearance to Light in the System Preferences screen and close it, and then run Apple Script to set dark mode to true, and then reopen the SYstem Preferences screen, it still says it is on Light even though my screen is definitely in Dark Mode. If you think Dark Mode could make your night more enjoyable, it’s possible to schedule Dark Mode. It is definitely related to the AppleScript that I used previously to toggle between the two. I've since removed this automator script and shortcut. The only thing I can think of that may be relevant was I used this tutorial in the past with Mojave to create a keyboard shortcut to toggle, and perhaps how it set it has permanently left something hanging around causing it to ignore what I select in System Preferences > General > Appearance. However, it has not changed from Dark Mode since I installed it, regardless of the time of day. I have the Catalina installed, and set the appearance to Auto.
